Roses is a staple restaurant for East Grand Rapids residence. This small, business casual restaurant sites on the banks of Reeds lake just a short distance from the heart of East Grand Rapids. Fairly more upscale compared to some of the restaurants on this list Roses still has a homey feel to make you feel nice and relaxed. The typical wardrobe includes khakis and a button down for guys and sundresses for girls. If you have a chance on a nice and sunny day you have to sit outside, but make sure to bring your sunglasses. If you're lucky you may even catch a regatta taking place on the lake as you eat your meal. On Friday nights, you can hear the roar of the high school football stadium near by.
For starters roses has an abundance of wines and beer (a lot of which are local brews) for those looking to sip while they eat. Thier bartenders are also seasoned and serve some of the better cocktails in Grand Rapids. To start your meal you must grab their root chips with a goat cheese fondue and red pepper aioli. From here you need to turn to a wood fired pizza for a unique taste you can only get a few places in the city. Throughout the night they feed their food fired stove to give their pizza dough a nice smoky taste and crispy texture. Another popular option is the turkey cranberry sandwich. I can't say I've had a better one anywhere else I have been. To end the meal they give each guest a paper cup of caramel corn, a homage to Rose's past as a carnival.
If you do decide to venture here on a Friday or Saturday night and don't want to wait two hours for a table you should call and make a reservation. If you forgot or are rolling through the neighborhood and decided to pop in fear not, Roses has a separate bar room that you can drink at while you wait for a table to come available. The service is always great and the food is always fresh, if you haven't been you are missing out on one of the old gems of Grand Rapids.
