Tips & Tricks for Pet Owners Between Appointments
For (almost) all owners:

If you bathe your dog between appointments and their coat is of medium to long length or curly - such as a Shih Tzu, Maltese, Bichon, Poodle or Poodle mix, Australian Shepherd, Golden Retriever, Malamute, etc - they WILL get matted unless properly dried or brushed while air-drying. A lot of matting after bathing comes from the dog rolling around and rubbing their bodies on the floor trying to dry themselves. If air-drying, we advise that you brush them after the bath, a few times while they dry, and again when they are fully dry.

Brush your dogs frequently! Curly-coated dogs like Poodles, Bichons, Doodles need brushing every day or every other day. Drop-coated, wavy, or silky-coated dogs like Shih Tzus, Malteses, and Yorkies should be brushed at least weekly.

Double coated dogs of medium or long coat lengths like Golden Retrievers, Australian Shepherds, Malamutes, Pomeranians, Great Pyrenees should also be brushed often to avoid compacted (matted) undercoat. Brushing often will minimize shedding too!

For Doodle owners:

Take a look at our product recommendations for a good slicker brush! Every Doodle owner should have one to avoid matting and the need for short shaves at grooming appointments.

Line-brush your dog thoroughly everyday or every other day, and finish with a metal comb to double check for any knots and tangles.
