5 Dribbling Drills for Beginners
For these 5 drills, all you need to do is have 10-15 cones set up in a line. The cones should be put about 2
cones apart from eachother. These 5 drills are what is shown in the first video on the slide below if you
need better clarification of the drills.
- The One Footer: This drill requires you to use one foot at a time to complete this
drill. This drill helps you to form small and controlled touches around each cone. You should go through
this drill 3-4 times with each foot. Make sure to keep the ball close to your feet.
- The One Touch: This is the same as the first drill, but this time you only have 1 touch
to dribble the ball around each cone.
- The One Foot ZigZag: In this drill, you are going to pick up every other cone and place
it 2 cones to the right of the line of cones. Now that you know the basics of dribbling through a
straight line, you are going to dribble with several touches, zigzagging around each cone.
- The One-Two: This drill you are going to place the cones back to the straight line that
you started with. For this one, you are going to use both feet, alternating each foot, dribbling around
the cones.
- The Inside-Outside: This drill also requires you to use both feet. To complete this
drill, you need to touch the ball around the first side of the cone with the inside of one foot and then
touch it with the outside of your other foot to finish going around that cone. Then take the same foot
you just completed that cone and push it using the inside of that foot to push it around the start of
the next cone.
3 Dribbling Skills for Intermediates
These drills are meant to be done with friends or teammates. For more clarification of the drills listed
below, the second video in the slide provided explains it and gives a demonstration.
- El Rondo: This first drills is called Rondo for short. It is a simple drill that can
consist of 4-6 people to make it an effective drill. Depending on how many people are in this drill,
lets say 6, there will be 4 people in an arms-length way from eachother in a circle. There will be 2
players in the middle playing as defenders. Now that you have the drill set up, you are just passing it
around the circle and try to keep it away from the defenderse. When you get comfortable with the drill,
try doing one touch.
- 1V1: This drill is just as it says, you are going to do a 1v1 where one person attacks
the goal and one person defends the goal. This drill allows you to make the decision of how you are
going to get around the defender while the defender tries to stop you.
- Shooting: Using different skills, coming from different directions and doing different
types of shots allows you to get comfortable with shooting. This drill helps everyone one the team to
become more successful playing on the offensive side.
